Bertolt Bertolt (1898-1956) was the most influential German dramatist and theoretician of the theater in the 20th century. Brecht wanted the play or drama to arouse the critical view and self reflection on the audience when they see the drama on stage. Brecht had pointed to Chaplin as one of the influences on the epic-theater theory. For Brecht the way that Chaplin moved was a way of providing though-provoking distance.
